1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu reached Algiers on the first leg of her three-nation visit to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi.

The directive issued by the Ministry states that the United Nations Flag is not to be flown on the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Vice-President’s House, Parliament House, Supreme Court building, Raj Bhawans, Raj Niwases, or buildings housing Legislative Councils, Legislative Assemblies, and High Courts across the country.

1. French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. Mr Macron emphasised during a phone call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri that a ceasefire must be reached immediately in Lebanon.

2. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the UN Chief to move UN peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon out of harm’s way. Mr Netanyahu’s appeal to UN Chief Antonio Guterres comes a day after the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, refused to withdraw from the border area despite five of its members being wounded in Israeli fire in recent days.

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on strongholds of armed group Hezbollah has reached over 1600 since escalation of the conflict in the region in September this year.

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024 calls on countries to harness the education sector to reduce the disaster risks of school-aged children, especially by investing in two key areas:
(a) Protect children through safe schools
(b) Empower for safe children through age-appropriate education to understand and act on the risks they face.
