1. Aviation workers in Kenya on Wednesday (Sep 11) ended their strike and returned to work following staging protests against a plan to lease the airport to India’s Adani Group.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union said the strike will continue until the central government scrapped the plan to lease the airport to Adani Group for 30 years in exchange for a $1.85 billion investment.

2. Afghanistan said work would begin on a $10 billion gas pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) TAPI, traversing South Asia as officials joined dignitaries in neighbouring Turkmenistan to celebrate its completion on that side of the border.

The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Galkynysh Gas Field in Turkmenistan through Afghanistan into Pakistan and then to India.

3. Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted the flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, on September 12, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours.

4. Russian President Vladmir Putin on Thursday proposed a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on the sidelines of the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa summit in Kazan next month when national security adviser Ajit Doval called on him in St Petersburg. Putin proposes bilateral with PM Modi during BRICS summit on Oct 22.

5. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday met Russian President Vladmir Putin amid renewed efforts to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict.

6. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to Switzerland . He will meet the Swiss Foreign Minister to review the close partnership between the two countries and explore avenues to enhance the bilateral relationship further.

7. Indian Embassy in Bahrain unveiled new displays showcasing Punjab’s tourism attractions and One District One Product (ODOP) scheme in a vibrant ceremony this week. The event marks Punjab as the sixth state to be featured in the Embassy’s ongoing ‘focus state-union territory’ initiative.

1. The interim government of Bangladesh has announced the setting up of six commissions to bring reform in six major sectors including the constitution.

2. United Nations International Day of South-South Cooperation celebrater on 12 Sep.

3. Nigeria’s Maiduguri is the grip of fear and confusion after 200 prisoners escaped a prison facility ravaged by massive flooding. Among those who escaped are commanders of the terrorist group Boko Haram who were directly responsible for deadly violence in the country’s northeast.

4. A delegation of the militant group Hamas met with Qatari and Egyptian mediators in Doha on Wednesday (Sep 11) to hold talks about a potential hostage and prisoner exchange.

The Palestinian group in a statement said that its lead negotiator Khalil al-Hayya met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel.

5. Bangladesh has urgently requested $5 billion in financial assistance from leading international lenders, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
