1. India has advanced support for 14,000 houses for the Indian Origin Tamil community under Phase IV.

2. Starting from Yesterday (12 Oct), travellers from non-EU countries, including India, must comply with the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES). The system requires fingerprinting, facial scans, and passport scans upon entry into Schengen Zone countries, including Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Ireland and Cyprus are exempt.

3. US President Donald Trump has announced that Dan Scavino will head the White House Presidential Personnel Office, replacing Sergio Gor, who has now been appointed as the US Ambassador-designate to India.

4. The IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) presented 13 rangers and ranger teams with the 2025 International Ranger Awards, recognizing their exceptional courage and dedication to nature conservation.The awards celebrate the resilience and perseverance of rangers who protect forests and wildlife worldwide, while raising public awareness about their critical role.

5. The visit of Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to Agra on Sunday has been cancelled, official sources said. However, officials in Agra did not mention any reason, which led to the cancellation.

1. US President Donald Trump is set to embark on a diplomatic visit to Israel and Egypt.

2. An international peace summit will convene in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh today to finalise an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza. US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will co-chair the meeting, which is expected to see participation from leaders of more than 20 countries, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

3. The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for deadly cross-border attacks that killed 58 Pakistani troops, calling the action retaliation for an alleged Pakistani airstrike on a civilian market in Paktika province.

Intense clashes erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border last night after an attack by the Taliban on Pakistani military posts.

4. Tensions flared again in the South China Sea after a collision between a Chinese coast guard ship and a Philippine government vessel near the disputed Spratly Islands.

5. Climate change has emerged as the single greatest threat to the world’s natural World Heritage sites, affecting nearly half of them, according to the IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4 released at the IUCN Congress in Abu Dhabi.

6. Seychelles opposition leader, Patrick Herminie, has won the country’s presidential race, defeating incumbent leader Wavel Ramkalawan in a run-off vote. Herminie won 52.7 per cent of the vote, while Ramkalawan took 47.3 per cent.

7. In Madagascar, some groups of soldiers have defied orders and joined thousands of anti-government protesters assembled in the capital, Antananarivo, against President Andry Rajoelina’s rule. Soldiers joined in after police used stun grenades and tear gas on demonstrators.

8. In Egypt, three Qatari diplomats were killed in a car crash on Saturday while heading to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. Two other diplomats were injured when their vehicle overturned. The diplomats, who were from the Qatari protocol team, were travelling to the city ahead of a high-level summit celebrating a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
