1. 19th East Asia summit (EAS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called for the restoration of peace and stability in Eurasia and West Asia, noting that conflicts in different parts of the world are having the most negative impact on the countries of the Global South.

2. President Smt Droupadi Murmu will embark on a three nation visit to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi from today till 19th of October. This will be the first ever visit by the President of India to the three African nations. The historic visit comes a year after the African Union was made a permanent member of the G 20 during India’s Presidency.

3. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead a Parliamentary delegation to 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled to be held in Geneva starting from today till the 17th of this month. The IPU has 180 member parliaments and 15 associate members.

4. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that Indian suppliers are the third largest provider of organisation’s health and ration support to children globally. Indian businesses have supplied goods and services worth nearly six billion dollars to UNICEF for its global work.

1. Large areas of Brazil’s forest were affected by fires, with 22.38 million hectares devastated in the first nine months of this year. The fires consumed 10.65 million hectares in September alone. Mato Grosso, Para and Tocantins in the northern region have been the worst hit.

2. In Mali, at least 177 people were killed due to flooding since the start of rainy season. The report, released yesterday by the Interministerial Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management.

3. The United States has imposed sanctions on companies and vessels that are allegedly engaged in trading and transporting Iranian oil, in order to punish Tehran for its recent missile attack on military sites in Israel.

4. Death Toll from Monkeypox Outbreak in Africa Reaches 979.

5. World Arthritis Day is being observed yesterday. The objective of the day is to create awareness among the people about rheumatic musculoskeletal disorders and their prevention.
