1. India has strongly pushed back against the United States’ recent trade tactics, particularly the imposition of steep tariffs on Indian products, signalling growing tensions in bilateral economic relations.On August 6, 2025, the US, under President Donald Trump, imposed an additional 25% tariff on many Indian goods, raising the total tariffs to 50%.
2. Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, issued a sharp rebuttal to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s allegations accusing Israel of committing genocide in Palestine. Priyanka Gandhi had publicly stated that the Israeli state is committing genocide, claiming over 60,000 people have been murdered, including 18,430 children, and accused Israel of starving many.
3. The 7th round of the India-Australia Dialogue on Disarmament, Non-Proliferation, and Export Control was held on August 12, 2025, in New Delhi. This high-level dialogue focused on discussing the latest developments and challenges in various critical areas including nuclear, chemical, and biological disarmament and non-proliferation.
4. Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is scheduled to visit Delhi on the evening of 12 August 2025, as part of an official visit to India. His visit coincides with the 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), which will take place on August 13, 2025, at Hyderabad House.
5. On 12 August 2025, Pakistan’s Foreign Office urged India to fulfil its Indus Water treaty obligations faithfully and to immediately resume normal operations of the treaty.
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in 2025, the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), a six-decade-old water-sharing agreement brokered by the World Bank in 1960, has been thrown into uncertainty. Following the horrible terror attack on 22 April 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir—allegedly carried out by a Pakistan-based militant group—India suspended the treaty on 23 April 2025.
6. The Government has said that the registration of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) will be liable to get cancelled when a person has been sentenced to imprisonment for term of not less than two years and has been charge-sheeted for an offence entailing punishment of imprisonment for seven years or more. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard.
7. Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, during a private dinner event in Tampa, Florida, issued a stark warning targeting India’s economic infrastructure, specifically singling out Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat, the world’s largest single-site refining complex, as a potential military target in future conflicts.
8. The government has imposed new restrictions on imports of certain jute-based products from Bangladesh. A notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade stated that items such as jute fabrics, twine, ropes, and bags can now enter India only through the Nhava Sheva Seaport in Maharashtra, effective immediately. Imports via land ports along the India-Bangladesh border are now prohibited.
