1. The BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs/International Relations met on 10 June 2024 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Federation. They exchanged views on major global and regional trends and issues.

India has wholeheartedly welcomed Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia joining the BRICS as their representatives attended for the first time a key meeting of the grouping hosted by Russia.

3. PhonePe has partnered with Sri Lankan ride-hailing platform PickMe to enable Indian travelers to use UPI payments for PickMe rides.

5. Sri Lankan Foreign minister Ali Sabry on Tuesday congratulated Nirmala Sitharaman on her reappointment as Finance Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He said that Sri Lanka appreciates the strong support given by India during the challenging times and expressed confidence that the economic ties between the two nations will continue to grow.

6. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron on Tuesday extended his congratulations to S Jaishankar on his reappointment as External Affairs Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

7. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has released stunning images of the Sun captured by the Aditya L1 satellite during a major geomagnetic storm in May.

The two remote sensing payloads, namely the Solar UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) and the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), along with other payloads, captured these images from the Lagrange point in space.

1. Malawi’s Vice President and nine others have been killed in a plane crash. Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera made the announcement. The plane disappeared while making the 45-minute flight from the southern African nation’s capital, Lilongwe, to the city of Mzuzu.

2. NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore reached the International Space Station in a Starliner spacecraft recently. However, it has been reported that the India-origin astronaut, Williams along with other crew members might be in danger due to a ‘space bug’. This bug is capable of causing health issues by infecting the respiratory system of the astronaut or their crew members.

3. The World Bank has approved USD 1 billion in additional funding for the Dasu Hydropower Project (DHP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Kohistan district in Pakistan.

4. United Nations Security Council has approved a US-proposed Israel-Gaza ceasefire plan. It sets out conditions for a “full and complete ceasefire,” the release of hostages held by Hamas, the return of dead hostages’ remains and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.

5. Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s three-man war Cabinet, announced his resignation .

6. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her country’s eagerness to import hydro-electricity from Bhutan through India.
