1. Amid a diplomatic row with India over derogatory remarks by his ministers against PM Modi, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, who is on a five-day state visit to China, met President Xi Jinping on January 10 and signed 20 ‘key’ agreements, including one on tourism cooperation.
2. The founding member of Lashkar-e-Tayiba (LeT), Hafiz Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, is ‘Confirmed Deceased’, the United Nations Security Council stated. He also served as the deputy to 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

1. Sheikh Hasina was on Thursday sworn in as the prime minister of Bangladesh for the fifth term.
2. Proceedings began on Thursday in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague, where Israel is being accused of committing “genocidal” acts during its war against Hamas in Gaza.
3. Two people were killed in an explosion in Kabul on Thursday, the third such incident in less than a week. Twelve others were also injured in the grenade blast in PD 18 of Kabul.
4. An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan on Thursday The tremors of the quake, which had its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan were also felt in India and neighbouring Pakistan.
5. The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday (January 10) upheld the death sentence for Pakistan’s former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf. The verdict has come a year after his death. The supreme court maintained the death sentence handed to Musharraf by a special court in the country in a high treason case in 2019. Musharraf died on February 5, 2023 in Dubai after long illness.

In Nepal: Spiritual leader ‘Buddha Boy’ arrested for rape, kidnapping: He was Worshipped and regarded as a reincarnation of Gautam Buddha, Bomjan had a significant number of disciples but has been on the run since early 2020 after a complaint was filed against him for sexual exploitation of female disciples.
7. Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was arrested on 09 Jan in a case linked to the attack on the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi on 9 May 2023.
8. Bhutanese voters re-elected Tshering Tobgay for a second term as Prime Minister. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tobgay, secured nearly two-thirds of the seats in the recent election.
