1. US Vice President JD Vance and national security adviser Michael Waltz are expected to be in New Delhi on April 21, reflecting Washington’s focus on its relationship with India amid concerns across the globe over President Donald Trump’s policy on tariffs.

2. The 8th Meeting of Joint Committee on ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) which was hosted by India, concluded. The five-day meeting held in New Delhi, was co-chaired by Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Rajesh Agrawal.

3. India has pledged nearly one million dollars in support to Sierra Leone under a UN-backed initiative aimed at empowering persons with disabilities. The project, developed in response to a national request from Sierra Leone and implemented with UNDP assistance, will support skill development.

4. President Smt Droupadi Murmu concluded her successful visit to Slovakia. President departs for home after a successful state visit to Portugal and Slovakia. She attended an interactive session with members of the Indian business delegation in Bratislava, Slovakia, before departing for New Delhi.

1. China’s finance ministry announced that it has raised additional tariffs on US goods from 84 per cent to 125 per cent.

2. South Korea and Syria have formally established diplomatic relations.

3. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said that his country wants a win-win outcome from tariff talks with the US as he dispatches a top economic aide to visit Washington next week.

4. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States will hold direct talks with Iran to discuss Iran’s nuclear programme.

5. Mauritius has become the first African country to sign a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA). It is also the fourth country globally, after Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Cuba, to sign the CPF.
