1. The United States has removed Indian company IREL from its restricted list. This decision will help the Indian government purchase and refine rare metals. The National Security Advisor of the United States, Jake Sullivan, made the announcement on Monday. It marks a significant step toward implementing the India-U.S. civil nuclear agreement.
2. The Taliban has officially designated India as a “significant regional and economic partner” following high-level talks between officials from both nations, marking the most substantial engagement since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. This acknowledgment came after a meeting on January 8, 2025, in Dubai, where India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Taliban Foreign Minister.

India has dispatched humanitarian assistance to Cuba in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Rafael, which struck the country in November 2024.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that a consignment containing essential medicines, including antibiotics and painkillers, was sent to support recovery efforts in the affected regions.

6. Sri Lanka launches 1st Hindi certificate course at Bharat Sri Lankan Hindi Sammelan. The unveiling of the course curriculum was done by Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Dr. Madhura Senevirathne and the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha.
7. Dr. Syed Anwar Khursheed, a distinguished Indian physician based in Saudi Arabia, will be awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2025, the highest recognition for overseas Indians by the Government of India. The award celebrates his remarkable contributions to healthcare, community welfare, and strengthening ties between India and Saudi Arabia.
