1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Guyanese President Irfaan Ali on his resounding victory in both the General and Regional elections.

2. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the Immigration and Foreigners Order, 2025, granting Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) first class judicial magistrate powers. This development is for Assam, where FTs are uniquely operational. The order allows detention of persons unable to prove their Indian nationality. It replaces the 1964 Foreigners (Tribunal) Order and follows the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which repealed earlier laws.

3. India’s Largest Container Terminal Inaugurated
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong virtually inaugurated PSA Mumbai’s Terminal Phase-II at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT). With a capacity of 4.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), it is now India’s largest container terminal. The terminal is directly connected to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) by rail, enabling faster and more efficient cargo movement.

4. India recently revealed the Vikram 3201, its first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor designed for space applications. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Chandigarh, this chip marks step towards self-reliance in semiconductor technology. The processor is built to withstand extreme space conditions and will power critical functions in launch vehicles.

1. Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announces resignation after election defeats. he will also resign from his position as President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

2. In Bangladesh, more than a thousand activists of the banned Awami League staged a protest march near the Parliament premises in Dhaka, chanting slogans in support of party chief Sheikh Hasina.

3. In Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul has taken office as the new prime minister of the country yesterday.

4. Norwegians went to the polls yesterday in the first round of a two-day parliamentary election that could reshape the country’s political landscape. The race pits Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere’s Labour-led left-wing bloc against a right-wing alliance led by the Conservatives and the populist Progress Party.

5. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are “very close” to a new cooperation framework. He made the remarks at a conference in Tehran.

6. In China, Typhoon Tapah, the 16th typhoon of the year, formed yesterday in the island province of Hainan. A Level-IV typhoon warning has been issued.
