1. India Hosts 46th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session
In a landmark event for India’s cultural diplomacy, the nation is set to host the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee from 21-31 Jul 2024.
2. PM Modi will be on an official visit to Russia on the 8th and 9th of this month. The External Affairs Ministry said that Mr Modi will be in Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
3. India assumed the chairmanship of the Colombo Process, a regional initiative involving 12 Asian countries, to enhance governance and opportunities for overseas employment.
4. The first phase of snap election for the French Parliament was held on 30th June at Puducherry for French citizens living in Puducherry to cast their votes. The total number of registered voters in Puducherry, Karaikkal, Tamilnadu and Kerala at the close of the poll is 4535 and number of valid votes cast in the first phase was 877. The second phase of voting will be held on 7th July. A french citizen spoke to Akashvani about the elections.
5. The Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman S. Somnath has said that the Indian space agency will conduct a study of Apophis asteroid, when it will be closest to Earth in 2029.
6. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space and MoS Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled the results of the 15th round of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).
7. India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant led the Indian delegation to the 3rd G20 Sherpas Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

1. UK General Elections 2024: Yesterday in United Kingdom, Voting began across the nation for a parliamentary election. UK Elections 2024 has boiled down to a close fight between the incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Labour Party’s Keir Starmer.
Britain’s Labour Party appears to be headed for a huge majority in the 2024 UK election, an exit poll suggested.
The UK operates under a first-past-the-post system where voters elect representatives from 650 constituencies. The party that wins most seats – at least 326 – will form the government. Its leader will become the Prime Minister. In the case that no party secures a majority, the existing PM gets the first opportunity to form a coalition government.
2. Former spy chief Dick Schoof is the new Dutch prime minister, leading a right-wing coalition with a focus on implementing the “strictest-ever” immigration policy. Schoof, 67, previously headed the Dutch Secret Service and takes over from Mark Rutte, who served 14 years in power.
3. Hamas has said that it has consulted with the Qatari and Egyptian mediators to end the war with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
4. The current government of Afghanistan, the Taliban, took part in the UN Conference on Afghanistan for the first time. It took place in Doha, Qatar, on June 30 and 1 July 2024.
5. The European Commission (EC), in a bid to counter China’s attempts to capture the European markets, imposed additional tariffs to maintain healthy competition in the EU’s electric vehicle market.The additional taxes will be imposed on China-made Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) starting July 5.
