1. The 24th Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be held on the 4th of this month in Astana, under the presidency of Kazakhstan. External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation to Astana for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO Summit.
The leaders are expected to review the organization’s activities over the past two decades and discuss the state and prospects of multilateral cooperation.
2. India recently launched the “Fauna of India Checklist Portal,” which is a major step toward protecting wildlife. This complete collection lists 1,04,561 species, making India the first country in the world to record all of its wildlife.

1. In Brazil, nearly 180 people have lost their lives so far after flooding and landslides wreaked havoc in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. 33 people are reported to be still missing.
2. On July 3, Japan will introduce new banknotes featuring what it claims to be the world’s pioneering use of advanced holography. This technology creates the illusion of historic figures’ portraits rotating in 3D on the bills, serving as a key anti-counterfeit measure. This marks the first redesign of the banknotes in 20 years.
3. Turkish authorities on Tuesday (Jul 2) detained over 470 people following anti-Syrian riots in several cities. The riots sparked after a Syrian man was accused of harassing a child. Tensions escalated Sunday (Jun 30) in the Syrian city of Kayseri as large crowds targeted Syrian businesses and properties.
4. Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have reached an agreement to form a new national consensus government aimed at ousting PM Prachanda.
The two largest parties in the Federal Parliament- NC and the CPN (UML) on Monday (1st July 2024) agreed to share the power equation, aiming to form a new government under the leadership of UML Chair KP Sharma Oli.
5. A Russian missile strike has destroyed five Ukrainian military jets and damaged two more, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Tuesday.
6. The death toll from multiple suicide bombings in the northeastern Nigerian town of Gwoza over the weekend has risen to 32.
