1. Foreign Affairs Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel arrived in New Delhi yesterday on his first official visit to India. He will hold a meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar today.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. At least 11 people were injured. The incident is the latest in a disturbing series of three attacks in the US in the last 24 hours.
3. India has extended relief assistance of five lakh dollars to earthquake hit Vanuatu to support relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck near Vanuatu’s coast in the South Pacific Ocean on the 17th of last month causing major destruction and loss of life. India extended its deep condolences to the Government and the people of Vanuatu for the damage and destruction caused by this unprecedented disaster.
4. India has completed the fencing of over nine kilometres of its border with Myanmar and work on the road along the fence is in progress. The fencing has been done at Moreh in Manipur.
5. In a significant win for Indian diplomatic efforts after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana could soon be extradited to India. For those unversed, Tahawwur Rana has been accused of having played a key role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that killed around 175 people. The extradition process had intensified after a federal appeals court in the US quashed Rana’s appeal in August, last year.
6. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi will be on a two-day visit to India. During the visit, Majid Takht-Ravanchi will participate in the 19th round of Iran-India Political Consultations, scheduled to take place in New Delhi.
7. India and Bangladesh will exchange 185 imprisoned fishermen on January 5, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

1. In Bangladesh, a Chattogram court today rejected the bail plea of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, during a hearing held under tight security. The spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote and a former priest of ISKCON, Chinmoy Krishna Das, was arrested on sedition charges on the 25th of November, from Dhaka Airport. He has been in jail since the 26th of November.
2. In the US, at least 11 people were injured in a mass shooting outside a nightclub in New York on Wednesday night. The shooting reportedly took place around 11:20 pm near the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica.
3. In Tunisia, Maritime Guards and the Navy today recovered 27 bodies and rescued 83 undocumented immigrants after their boats sank off the southeastern coast of Sfax province.
4. South Korea’s Jeju Airlines plans to reduce its flight operations in response to growing concerns over the safety of its flight operations, in the wake of the fatal crash this week.
