Topper’s Strategy And Approach: For The Competitive Exam
If you are a serious aspirant and want to crack the competitive exam in one go, then this article will guide you in the right direction. Now, before we begin, you must understand the difference between toppers, those who qualify, and those who don’t.
All three categories of students put in the effort, time, energy, and financial resources in the exam, but only a few can get better outcomes than others. The answer lies below.
It is because any student’s preparation goes through the following five phases, and anyone who misses any of the stages will either not qualify or will qualify with average marks despite hard work.
Different Phases Of Preparation
Phase 1: Understanding And Demarcations Of Boundary
First and foremost, irrespective of whether you are someone taking coaching or not, a talented or average student, go through the syllabus, note down every topic, and remember it by heart.
Then, go through the previous years’ questions for a minimum of seven to ten years. That is the minimum you have to do. Then, try to identify and segregate the themes from which most of the questions have been asked. This is called the 80/20 rule, i.e. always from 20% of the portion, 80% of the questions are asked.
In other words, in every exam and subject, there are core and periphery themes. Don’t be disappointed if, in the first reading, you are not able to do that because there will be many topics you will be new to.
Then, take some time, consult seniors, toppers, teachers, and mentors, do research of your own, and then gather your resources, i.e., books and materials, and then decide whether or not you need coaching for it or if you have a suitable support system to guide you during your preparation.
Phase 2: Covering The Required Content In Depth And Focusing On Understanding Along With Note-Making
Now, pick up every single topic, read and cover that topic from various sources, make short notes of what you want to remember about the topic, and write in the exam.
Make sure that you cover every dimension related to the topic, or else your notes will be incomplete and you’ll have to redo the whole note-making process.
Phase 3: Enrichment And Presentation Skills
If you are a serious aspirant, you will not stop after note- making it, you will go a step ahead and work on value addition and presentation skills.
Almost all the content available in the market is the same, and this is a competitive exam, so in order to gain an edge over it, you need to painstakingly go through this phase too.
The beauty of this phase is that, because of your unique answers, you can fetch much higher marks than other people.
Phase 4: Appearing For Mocks And Tests And Working On Weaknesses
Now that you have gone through a series of emotions attached to phases like phase 1 offers bewilderment, phase 2 teaches you patience, etc, you have earned your spot for phase 4, i.e., mock tests and knowing your place in the competition.
This will help you identify your weaknesses and make them your strengths, so when the actual exam comes, you not only pass but qualify with flying colors.
Phase 5: Exam Ready
After following the above 4 crucial phases, you are exam-ready because now, when you sit in an exam, you will not be doing anything that you have not done thousands of times before, i.e., answering the suitable answers as per the question.
