In a tragic accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, three Indian Army soldiers were killed when their vehicle plunged into a 700-foot-deep gorge. The accident took place on Sunday during routine military movement in hilly areas, which are renowned for their deep cliffs and treacherous bends.

Rescue operation initiated at once

The vehicle is said to have skidded out of control near Neel village along the national highway stretch between Jammu and Srinagar. Local administration, police, and Army personnel moved to the spot immediately after information was received. Though prompt action was taken, the steep fall and rocky terrain made the rescue operation difficult.

The officials confirmed that the three soldiers were critically hurt in the fall and died from their injuries despite receiving emergency medical care. Their names have been withheld until the families are informed.

Hazardous roads a persistent issue

The Ramban area, commonly susceptible to landslips and accidents, has witnessed quite a few of these in the past. The hill roads, particularly during harsh weather or overnight journeys, constitute a serious danger for travelers, including defense personnel.

Defense authorities confirmed that the accident occurred during their official duty. The Army is carrying out a thorough probe into the reasons for the accident, including whether the road conditions or mechanical faults were involved.

Tributes flow for the martyred heroes

Condolences and messages flowed in from all over the country. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the loss and paid their respects to the courageous soldiers. Their sacrifice won’t be forgotten. “My heart is with their families,” tweeted Singh.

Nation mourns another loss

This incident has again brought into focus the risks that soldiers have to undergo even in non-battle scenarios. While investigations are ongoing, the nation remains in respectful remembrance of the fallen in the line of duty.

The mortal remains of the soldiers will be returned to their hometowns with full military honors.
