Speak your native tongue

Speak your native tongue

अपनी मातृभाषा में बात करें!
Speak your native tongue,
Walk ahead of endangerment.
Call it a first language,
A native language,
A parent language,
A language of one’s ethnic group.
From the primary caregiver,
The key to our culture,
Our belief system,
Our identity marker.
Fosters feelings of solidarity,
Fundamental to cultural identity.
When fall out of practice,
Leads to code death,
Losing cultures and people.
Make an effort,
To prevent known codes,
From turning unknown.

  1. “What is a nation without a mother tongue?” ~ Jack Edwards
This is what I am exactly reminded of reading this beautiful piece of poetry crafted by one of my dear mentors and an impeccable linguist- Devina Ma’am.
Indeed, in the current scenario it seems that our native tongue has reached to the verge of extinction and that is because we as speakers have allowed the foreign languages to overpower the mother tongue. Thus, the poem is the need of the hour…need of the hour to understand the message conveyed through the poem for any language lives as long as it is spoken… Congratulations Devina ma’am ❤️
    More power to you.?
