A stunning accident has been unearthed from Shahapur in Karnataka’s Yadgir district. A Class 9 girl student of a boarding school gave birth to a baby boy in the school bathroom on Wednesday. The girl, a resident of the hostel, had allegedly gone into labor while classes were on. Her fellow students spotted her in pain and promptly alerted the school administration. Both the girl and her infant were sent to a nearby hospital and are said to be stable.
Pregnancy Tied to Suspected Assault
Evidence indicates that the student was sexually assaulted months prior, resulting in the pregnancy. Officials report the girl did not initially report the assault because she was scared and stressed. After labor, however, she provided information that aided police in identifying the suspect—a 28-year-old male who has since been arrested.
Legal Action and Investigation
A case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police are trying to collect more details and offer counseling and medical care to the student during her recovery. Authorities are also attempting to verify if the accused had any prior interaction with the girl.
School Staff Under Scrutiny
The school administration is in the line of fire for failing to notice the pregnancy of the student or taking adequate care. Four officials, including the principal and hostel warden, have been suspended for negligence. The Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) has directed an inquiry into the matter and action against the guilty officials.

Child rights activists are seeking tougher monitoring and accountability procedures to avoid such tragedies.
