In a compassionate response to the escalating summer temperatures in the months of April and May, and their detrimental effects on street animals, Jacqueline Fernandez’s YOLO (You Only Live Once) Foundation, in collaboration with the Citizens for Animal Protection Foundation (CAP), launched an ambitious campaign to distribute 1000 water bowls across Mumbai and its suburbs. The campaign is now on its last leg and is inching towards completion as it provided much-needed relief to street animals suffering from dehydration and heat stress. The initiative underscored the urgent need for accessible water sources for animals who often struggle to find adequate hydration in urban environments.
Jacqueline Fernandez, renowned actress and founder of YoLo Foundation, expressed her heartfelt commitment to the cause: “Street animals are often overlooked during extreme weather conditions, and it’s our responsibility to ensure their well-being. By distributing water bowls across the city, we hope to make a significant difference in their lives. I urge everyone to join us in this initiative and help provide relief to these vulnerable animals.”
CAP Foundation, a prominent organisation dedicated to animal welfare, has been instrumental in mobilising volunteers and resources for the campaign. Speaking on behalf of CAP, Sushank Tomar, Managing Director, stated, “Our collaboration with YOLO Foundation amplifies our efforts to safeguard street animals. This campaign not only addresses the immediate need for water but also raises awareness about the broader issue of animal welfare in urban settings.”
The distribution of water bowls has been strategically carried out in high-density areas and locations with a known presence of street animals. Volunteers ensured that the bowls are regularly refilled and maintained to provide a continuous water supply. Additionally, educational materials have been provided through social media to residents of Mumbai, encouraging them to support the initiative by placing and maintaining water bowls in their neighbourhoods.
This collaborative effort is a call to action for the citizens of Mumbai to come together and show compassion towards the animals that share our streets. Every small act of kindness can contribute to creating a more humane and caring environment for all living beings.
