Thursday morning, an accidental fire caught the seventh building of the Bangladesh Secretariat
under flames and burned documents of millions worth. The fire spread to the sixth, seventh and
eighth floor of the seventh building and pigeons were found dead amid the flames.

It took around six hours for the firefighters to water the fire which shows the intensity of the
accident.

The whole accident seems to be well plotted and implemented and the interim Government of
Bangladesh has taken necessary steps to deal with the accident. Fingers are turned towards
Awami League but after investigation, nothing for sure can be confirmed.

Damage Caused Amid Accidental Fire

No human casualties have been recorded till now from the accidental fire caused at the
Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka. However, high-profile files of investigation and bureaucratic
work have burned to ashes.

The officers in charge have informed that these files contained information on past
Government’s financial fraud details during their administration phase along with details of local
Government functions and information about post and telecommunications as well.

The seventh building caught fire and it spread to the sixth, seventh and eighth floors. The fire
seems to have erupted in three places simultaneously in the building. So, there might be
chances it is caused.

Suspicions Behind The Accident

Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan who is a local Government advisor while addressing the public
said “The conspirators have not stopped their activities. But no one will be given a single inch
pace to escape (punitive actions) if found involved to fail us.”

For now, the Awami League Government is under suspicion as the motive and benefit are
visible. So, they are top in suspicion.

Government’s Response To The Accident

The current government has formed a seven-person expert Committee to look into the
investigation and submit a report within a week so the conspirators behind the accident can be
punished. The papers that were burned during the accident are said to hold evidence of millions
of worth of scams done by the previous Government Awami League which complicates the
matter further.
