Bharatiya Jnanpith to Release Hindi version of My Name is Gauhar Jaan

Bharatiya Jnanpith a not-for-profit trust, working for the promotion & publication of Indian literature for the last 75+ years.

Bharatiya Jnanpith has been recognizing/honouring our great writers by way of annual awards, also considered India’s highest literary award.

A book release programme is being organised in Delhi, in association with Prabha Khaitan foundation, of the Hindi translation of the popular book Gauhar Jaan – Life and times of a musician by celebrated writer Dr. Vikram Sampath.

The programme will be held on Monday, MARCH 28, 2022 at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi at 6:30 pm.

Gauhar Jaan is one of Dr. SampathтАЩs older works but its Hindi translation has been published only this year by Bharatiya Jnanpith.

The function shall have noted folk & classical singer PadmaShri Smt Malini Awasthi releasing the book and singing a few songs of the legendary singer Gauhar Jaan, on whom the book is written. Function will also be graced by noted dignitaries like Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh, dancer and MP, Padma Bhushan Pt. Sajan Mishra, noted classical singer for a brief discussion on the book.

Gauhar Jaan was the first ever Indian voice to be ‘recorded’ on a gramaphone way back in 1903. She was one of the finest classical singers of her times whose contribution to Indian classical music, its form, content and presentation and to its commercialisation is unparalleled.
