Vivek Hariharan’s Darkly Elegant Opera-Death Lullaby for Sonu Sood’s _Fateh_

Vivek Hariharan, who has lent his voice to soulful tracks like _Challa_ from ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, _Current Laga Re_ from the Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Cirkus’, _Dum Dum_ from ‘Phillauri’, and _Ghere_ from the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘An Action Hero’, as well as shows like ‘TVF Tripling’, ‘Mismatched’, ‘Panchayat’ among others, has now ventured into music composition with three songs in the recently released film Fateh starring Sonu Sood and Jacqueline Fernandes.

One of the compositions that Vivek has created for Fateh is _Nindiya_, a deeply emotional death lullaby layered with rich musical textures, making it both haunting and cinematic. The song is a blend of opera, the first of its kind in Bollywood, and orchestral hip-hop, topped with a lullaby melody rooted in the emotional context of death. It’s set to play during a high-octane action sequence in which Sonu Sood takes down the antagonist’s gunmen. Vivek went all the way to Belgium to record the song in a remote chapel near Antwerp, Europe to achieve the authentic room dynamics and natural reverb that the chapel provided.

“ _Nindiya_ was a challenging song for me to make, especially since it marks my debut as a music composer. I started as a playback singer, in which you sing to an already composed song. You are directed by the composer, and you sing within that framework. However, composing for a film and aligning the music with visuals is an entirely different experience, particularly with _Nindiya_, where we wanted to explore opera while complementing intense action sequences. Opera brings a lot of drama, but then I had this idea of blending it with a lullaby, where death sings to you! It was courageous of Sonu paaji (Sonu Sood) to give the green light for such an unconventional concept. I haven’t seen something like this being done before and wasn’t entirely confident but I’m glad it turned out so well!” shares Vivek who ditched a lucrative career at a management consulting firm to pursue his passion in music.

The opera segments were recorded in Belgium with Tineke, a skilled opera singer leading a group of professional vocalists. The arrangement was orchestrated by Kris, an opera vocal arranger who frequently collaborates with Hans Zimmer. The production also features Yevheniia, a talented Ukrainian violinist whose Western classical expertise enriches the song’s layered composition. Complementing the grandeur of the opera is the delicate Indian vocals lent by Hamsika Iyer, known for her hits like _Chammak Challo_ and _Chanda Re_.

In addition to Nindiya, Vivek has also composed _Roohdaari_, sung by Jubin Nautiyal, and _Roohdaari Reprise_, sung by Vivek himself, for the film.
