Actor Surya Sharma is currently seen playing the role of Col. Ashwaq in the Sunjoy and Comall Sunjoy W series Salakaar, a character rooted in strength, strategy, and vulnerability.
Speaking about what drew him to the project, Surya says, “For me, the main hook was the story. I did this show because of the director’s vision for my character.” Col. Ashwaq, as Surya describes him, is a man of focus and discipline. “He is very sorted and strong-headed. He is focused on his goal, but at the same time you can see the human in him. His love for Mariam makes him vulnerable. It was not very difficult for me to unlock Ashwaq’s emotional side, though I did my research on body language since he belongs to a royal family and is also a soldier.” Asked if playing such a layered role came with challenges, Surya responds with ease: “Not at all. I am an actor, and that’s my job.” Still, he admits there are moments in the script that stood out. “The entry scene of Ashwaq is the cherry on top,” he adds with a smile. The show moves between two timelines, past and present, with Surya’s arc placed in the present. Because of this, he didn’t get much time to interact with the wider cast. However, he fondly recalls his experience working alongside Mouni Roy. “My experience with her is great. She’s very humble and makes you feel comfortable,” he shares.
Backed by producer Sunjoy Waddhwa, Salakaar promises a mix of patriotism, espionage, and gripping human drama. For Surya, portraying Col. Ashwaq wasn’t just about embodying a soldier but also about bringing alive the complexities of a man torn between duty and love.
