The project has a beautiful coalescence of multilingual rap in Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Konnakol which is a vocal percussion art form from the Carnatic tradition of South Indian music. Combining these elements, under the tutelage of Viveick, the rappers and the music of the Ta Dhom Project, is a true musical expression of traditional India with a modern edge.
The track India 91 in the blockbuster movie “Gullyboy” was featured this sound of Ta Dhom project also composed and produced by Viveick Rajagopalan A Mridangam player, composer, and producer, Viveick, strives hard to represent the mridangam tradition in an innovative presentation and the success of Ta Dhom Project is indeed the first of its kind to be featured in the global scene.
Viveick, who is the disciple of Guru Shri T.S.Nandakumar, is a musician and composer who is always seeking to push boundaries and obliterate them to make different sounds come together. He has collaborated with a galaxy of artists like Richard Bona, Bugge Wesseltoft, Chinese Man, Shri, Bauchklang and Lucky Ali to name a few.
WOMAD is unique in so many ways and its independence from the big commercial promoters and incredible network of international events with local partners all over the world sets it apart from other festivals.
WOMAD has always been about connecting the world to the world, and in these difficult days of inward-looking nationalism and racism are on the rise, it believes the quiet underlying message of WOMAD needs to be heard, more than ever. Womad has been lined up at Charlton Park, Malmsbury from July 25 to 28. It had presented its 40th Annual Festival in 2022 after many festivals it planned in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the pandemic Covid-19 that had shut down the world for over a year.
