Salman Khan’s recent release Sikandar keeps going strong at the box office. On Day 9, the movie went past the ₹100 crore mark, earning a total of ₹104.3 crore locally. Even with the tough competition from other releases, the action entertainer has stood its ground, courtesy of Salman’s huge fan following and good word-of-mouth among family audiences.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sikandar was released to fair reviews and has gained traction over the past week, particularly in mass circuits such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and regions of Maharashtra. The second weekend provided the film with a much-needed boost, with the Saturday and Sunday collections seeing a substantial rise.
L2: Empuraan becomes stiff competition
While Sikandar is going strong, it’s being increasingly challenged by L2: Empuraan, the Malayalam blockbuster starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The political thriller has been rising rapidly at the box office and now is nearly on par with Sikandar in overall collections, particularly in South India and abroad.
L2: Empuraan has emerged as a shock pan-India success story, attracting not only regional patrons but also making inroads in North India with dubbed versions. The engaging script, hard-hitting performances, and political drama strands have struck a chord, causing Sikandar to run a close second at the box office.
Mixed reviews, star power
While Sikandar did not do too well in terms of criticism, Salman’s on-screen presence, fast-paced action sequences, and a good soundtrack ensured the film continued its run. Family crowds and hardcore Salman fans still keep coming out in good strength, ensuring that the film sees its collections in the second week as well.
Trade analysts opine that Sikandar may collect approximately ₹130–140 crore during its lifetime if it keeps going at this rate, although it might be challenging to cross ₹150 crore with more major releases scheduled in April.
The box office battle rages on.
While Sikandar and L2: Empuraan fight it out, it will be interesting to note which movie has momentum for longer. While Salman Khan provides the star power, L2 boasts content strength and good audience connection. Either way, the box office is doing great, and Indian cinema buffs are definitely the biggest winners.
