The music composer duo Siddharth Mahadevan and Souumil Shringarpure are all in readiness to up the excitement levels this festive season. Their new high octane track – ‘Boom Padi’ from the upcoming Amazon Original Movie “Maja Ma ” picturised on the superstar Madhuri Dixit has wowed the nation with its enthusiastic, foot thumping Garba rhythms!
The ease with which traditional Indian melodies and instruments blend into a contemporary dance melody, picturized on Madhuri Dixit’s awe-inspiring Garba moves, makes for an audio-visual treat for all ages.
Says an excited Siddharth, “We are super-excited to present this song to the whole world. It is extra-special as it stars a Bollywood legend in Madhuri Dixit. And, she has done a fantastic dance sequence beautifully picturised and choreographed on our song. While we’re always looking to push the boundaries of our creative prowess, we are also thrilled to work on something radically fresh…something that blends the realms of traditional folk and dance with contemporary sound!“
Adds Souumil, “I worked on the background score of ‘Bandish Bandits’ and that’s when I got to know the film Director Anand Tiwari. So, when we got an opportunity to pitch a song for this particular scenario – a joyous occasion – we jumped at the chance. The brief was to make an authentic festive, high-energy Gujarati song. We decided to experiment and came up with a fresh original composition that reflected the cinematography.”
While the track is guaranteed to leave listeners yearning for more, the build up to the song is even more interesting. This song was a huge challenge as neither Siddharth nor Souumil speak Gujarati nor are they well-versed with the culture. But having grown up in Mumbai, they drew on their past social experience of attending Garba events from back in the day.
While this laid the groundwork, there has been an entire team that has collaborated with Siddharth and Souumil to bring “Boom Padi” to life. The award winning lyricist Priya Saraiya has penned the lyrics, bringing an authentic Gujarati feel to the track while Shreya Ghoshal and Osman Mir have done complete justice with their vocal renditions. But that’s not where the magic ends! The whole rhythm section is done by Padmashree Sivamani and also features incredible musicians such as Tapas Roy, Paras Nath, Yogesh More, and more. For Siddharth and Souumil, bringing all this amazing talent together on a single project has been a welcome challenge and a pleasant blessing at the same time.
Siddharth and Souumil are no strangers to the industry though. The cousins have worked on several projects in Hindi, multiple regional languages, and have even recently produced an award-winning Marathi film. Their extensive body of work has won the hearts and minds of fans and critics alike over the years. And, “Boom Padi” promises to be a massive step up on their evolving creative journey and is the start of bigger things to come.
