In a major outbreak in the investigation into the attack on Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan, two of his staff members have identified the accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, in an identification parade conducted by Mumbai Police at Arthur Road Jail.
Identification Process
The identification parade was conducted in the office of the Senior Jailor at Arthur Road Jail in the presence of a Tehsildar, after due approval from the court. The staff nurse, Ariyama Philip, and Junu, the domestic help, who were present at the time of the incident at Khan’s Bandra residence, identified the accused in the process.
Background of the Incident
On the 16th of January 2025, an intruder broke into the 11th floor of Saif Ali Khan’s residence at Bandra in the early hours of the morning. He attacked a domestic staff member and then injured Saif Ali Khan with a knife in six places. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and underwent surgery. He has since recovered from the wound.
Arrest and Investigation
After the attack, Mumbai Police arrested 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national who had allegedly entered India illegally and went by the name Vijay Das. He was caught near Mumbai while heading to Khan’s house with the apparent intention of theft.
Forensic evidence
There was a facial recognition test that matched the image of the suspect trying to flee from the building with the arrested one, and this happened to agree with the identification by the staff members.
Current Status
Saif Ali Khan has been discharged from the hospital and is recuperating at home. The successful identification of the accused by the actor’s staff is a crucial moment in the running investigation as authorities close in an effort to solve the case.
