Rashmika Mandanna Supports Ranbir Kapoor’s Character in Animal: “No One’s Making You Watch It”

Actress Rashmika Mandanna joined in to criticize the backlash against Ranbir Kapoor’s character in Animal, a new movie by Sandeep Reddy Vanga that created controversy for its dark depiction of a troubled hero. Defending the film, Rashmika invited people to watch Animal as a work of fiction and not as a template for actual conduct.

“It’s a Character, Not a Message”

In an interview not too long ago, Rashmika spoke to the criticism leveled against the film and its handling of toxic masculinity. She explained clearly that Ranbir Kapoor’s character is supposed to be a tricky one, emotionally flawed—and not an idol or a role model to be emulated. “He’s not perfect, and that’s the point,” she stated.

She insisted that sometimes the retelling of a story means having unpleasant or blemished characters to portray the complexity of human feeling. “It’s just a story,” she said, “and people are free to interpret it how they want.”

“Watch It—Or Don’t”

Rashmika also addressed the critics personally who had raised questions about the messaging of the film. Refusing to brush aside their criticism, she said that art is always debatable—but watch it you can’t. “No one’s making it compulsory for you to see the film,” she asserted. “If it’s not your type of movie, you can stay away.”

Her statement arrives at a time when there is an increasing debate regarding the role of filmmakers in crafting ethically complex characters. Some critics maintain that Animal glamorizes abusive behavior, but their defenders argue that it delves into dark themes without endorsing them.

Role of the Audience

For Rashmika, audiences also have a critical role to play in perceiving films. “You don’t have to agree with a film to acknowledge it as storytelling,” she added. “Every movie isn’t made to be a lesson—it can also just be a reflection of a broken person.”

With her stern but contemplative answer, Rashmika Mandanna made it clear that animals never glorified violent behavior. Rather, it’s a dramatic presentation of an imperfect character—something viewers can opt for or not. Her message? Watch the movie if it connects with you, but don’t expect it to present clean-cut heroes.
