Riding high on the blockbuster box office success of The Kerala Story 2, the film’s music album has also struck a powerful chord with audiences. Composed by acclaimed music director Mannan Shaah, the soundtrack featuring four songs has quickly gained popularity for its deeply rooted melodies and emotional intensity. Adding another milestone to his career, Mannan has not only composed the film’s music but has also crafted the background score, marking his debut as a background score composer, while also lending his voice to the devotional track ‘Shiv Shambho’. As the film continues to receive an overwhelming response, the album too is emerging as a standout musical highlight, captivating audiences nationwide, dominating music charts across various platforms, and resonating strongly with listeners for its blend of devotional, folk, and emotionally driven compositions.

The album features four distinct songs, each reflecting a different emotional layer of the film’s narrative. ‘Saathi Re’, sung by Vishal Mishra, brings a rugged texture and ominous tone that aligns with the film’s darker undertones. ‘O Maayi Ri’, sung by Shreya Ghoshal, is an emotionally charged composition rooted in a poignant mother-daughter sentiment, delivered with a melancholic depth that enhances the film’s dramatic arc. ‘Thaari Jogan’, a Rajasthani folk-inspired devotional number sung by debutant Shaoni, adds an earthy authenticity with its folk-toned vocals. Rounding off the album is the powerful devotional track ‘Shiv Shambho’, composed and sung by Mannan Shaah himself, which unfolds during the film’s crucial climax and has already emerged as a major audience favourite. The film’s music stays deeply rooted in Indian classical and semi-classical traditions, with raag-based melodies and folk influences forming the core of the soundtrack’s sonic identity.

After the humongous commercial success of the album and his collaboration with the film, Mannan Shaah shared fondly, “I was approached by my producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with whom I have previously worked on the entire Commando franchise as well as Namaste England. When the opportunity to compose for The Kerala Story 2 came along, I knew I didn’t want to miss it. What made the journey even more special was working with director Kamakhya Narayan Singh, who has a tremendous understanding of music, melody, and Indian classical traditions, and who gave me the freedom to push the envelope with both the album and the background score. I had the opportunity to compose four songs for the film, along with the background score, and even sing one of the most crucial tracks of the film, which plays during the climax. Witnessing the audience reaction in theatres with chants, cheers, and whistles, was an overwhelming experience.”

Reflecting on the musical journey and audience response, he added, “The brief for the film was to keep the music rooted in Indian culture and melodies, whether through the songs or the background score. Working with artists like Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Mishra, and Shaoni was an incredible experience, and collaborating with such talented singers made the entire process creatively and artistically fulfilling. I have also worked with Shreya earlier for my independent music label, and she continues to dominate the music industry with her extraordinary voice. This was also my first collaboration with veteran lyricist Manoj Muntashir, whose evocative writing beautifully deepened the emotional fabric of the compositions. Since this was also my debut as a background score composer, developing themes for multiple characters and tying together parallel narratives within a short timeline was a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. Being part of a project that is continuously breaking records fills my heart with warmth and gratitude for all the appreciation the songs have received.”

Mannan Shaah has previously composed music for films, including the Commando franchise and Namaste England, in collaboration with producer Vipul Shah. Beyond film music, he has also produced the Marathi film ‘Roop Nagar Ke Cheetey’, which premiered across multiple international film festivals and received critical acclaim. Mannan Shaah has also recently co-founded the artist-first music streaming platform and label, ‘Goongoonalo’, along with legendary artists Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Akhtar. The platform has emerged as a significant initiative aimed at empowering musicians and giving them complete creative ownership of their work. As part of this initiative, Mannan is also set to release his independent single ‘Silsiley’ on the platform, further strengthening his presence in the evolving independent music space. He is also actively involved in philanthropic initiatives through the Unirise Research Foundation, where he works with special education schools to nurture and support musical talent among persons with disabilities, reflecting his commitment to using music as a tool for empowerment and community building. With The Kerala Story 2, now playing in theatres, he once again demonstrates his versatility as a composer, crafting a powerful musical backdrop that enhances the film’s intensity while giving it a distinct sonic identity.
