Tucked away in the leafy bylanes of Pali Village in Bandra, and housed in a 90-year-old quaint, weathered bungalow, Scarlett House makes a bold entrance to the city’s culinary scene. With its unmissable brick-red exterior and a charming design philosophy that makes you feel like you’re in an extension of a living room, everything about Scarlett House is designed to make you feel right at home—from the vintage crockery and old-world charm that has been retained in the interiors, to sun-lit nooks and corners and a culinary philosophy that focuses on clean eats backed by wellness.

With four partners at the helm—Dhaval Udeshi, founder of Dhaval Udeshi Hospitality, celebrity entrepreneur Malaika Arora, her son Arhaan Khan, and Malaya Nagpal—the quartet has combined creative forces to unveil a concept that Mumbai hasn’t experienced before. Scarlett House goes beyond being just a restaurant; it’s a curated platform that not only offers an immersive dining experience but also supports indigenous small-scale manufacturers by showcasing wellness products to a discerning audience.

The 45-cover restaurant, split across two charming levels, promises a wholesome menu that transitions seamlessly from morning to evening. Guests can enjoy a unique water bar with an assortment of healthy elixirs, a by-invitation-only cocktail bar featuring a compact menu of artisanal tipples, and a retail section spotlighting small-batch, locally-sourced products. These initiatives underscore Scarlett House’s commitment to championing homegrown vendors.

On the ground floor, you’ll find a coffee bar, a wine and cheese room, a thoughtfully curated retail section, and inviting seating areas adorned with cosy sofas and armchairs—the perfect spot for leisurely afternoons. Ascend the wooden staircase to discover an attic-inspired upper level, complete with vintage wallpaper, a live sushi bar, a cocktail bar, and a quaint reading corner for book lovers.

“Having launched over 20 hospitality projects, I wanted to create something beyond just food—an experience that feels like home but adds a sense of culinary adventure. Scarlett House is a culmination of global cuisine crafted using locally sourced ingredients. This is our flagship outlet, with plans to expand across Mumbai, other cities, and even internationally, alongside standalone Scarlett Retail kiosks,” says Dhaval Udeshi. “Scarlett House is about solution-based eats with purpose, and creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products,” he adds.

For Malaika Arora, Scarlett House represents a deep personal connection. “Food has always been about bringing people closer. At Scarlett House, we’ve tried to mirror this sentiment. This venture is even more special because it’s something I’m building alongside my son, Arhaan,” she shares.

“The post-pandemic era has redefined the F&B landscape. Dining is no longer just about food; it’s about the experience. Scarlett House aims to fill this gap in the Indian market, providing an unmatched combination of dining, wellness, and community engagement,” say Afsana and Amit Verma, Investors and Partners at Scarlett House.

The Interiors

As you Step inside Scarlett House, and you’re greeted with a harmonious blend of old-world charm and rustic simplicity. Whitewashed walls, distressed wooden accents, and Portuguese-inspired architectural elements come alive in this sunlit space. Vintage chairs in vibrant hues, mismatched wooden tables, and potted plants create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. A scarlet-hued door near the coffee bar makes for a striking focal point, hinting at the home’s Portuguese heritage while retaining its original character.

The Culinary Philosophy

Scarlett House is more than a dining venue; it’s a lifestyle destination that nurtures both body and mind. The menu, designed by Chef Beena Noronha, evolves throughout the day, offering global flavours with a distinct Indian twist. Ingredients are carefully sourced from across the country, celebrating the diversity of India’s culinary heritage.

Start your day with Matcha Waffles with Pistachio Cream and Candied Lemon or a Portuguese-style Egg Skillet. Midday cravings can be satisfied with Salmon Mille Feuille layered with jeera khari, Asparagus Soufflé, or Chicken Ghee Roast Wraps. Evenings transform into intimate wine and cheese sessions featuring Indian and international labels paired with regional and vegan cheeses. Highlights also include ‘Malla’s Favourites’—dishes inspired by Malaika Arora’s home recipes, such as baked fish and a unique take on banh mi stuffed with offal.

The menu’s sushi offerings feature indigenous Uttarakhand rice, while gluten-free wraps, vegan rolls, and hearty mains cater to diverse palates. Desserts like Chocolate Sourdough with Blueberries and Brie Cheese, along with indulgent additions, promise a guilt-free sweet ending.

The cocktail program is set to redefine mixology, with a rotating menu refreshed every 45 days. International mixologists will be invited for bar takeovers, adding an eclectic flair to the offerings.

The Retail Experience

After your meal, stop by the retail wall where you can purchase ingredients used across the menu, from nut butters that are freshly churned in-house, to flavoured salts, sauces, compound butters in savoury notes such as Madras Curry or Furikake & Bacon, as well as protein bars. Millet-based products have been carefully sourced from local, women-led vendors in the city, while you also have ingredients like jamun vinegar. The idea to create a retail wellness space comes from the coherent idea of building a platform for small indigenous manufacturers and offering homegrown sips and eats to people.

With its warm, inviting ambiance and a philosophy that is rooted in nourishing the mind, body, and soul, Scarlett House is a chic addition to Mumbai’s food scene that is all set to offer a superlative dining experience.
