Actor Kunal Bhan was last seen on the TV show Sanjivani. He says taking a break from acting soon after the pandemic struck last year was a conscious choice, because he didn’t want to put his grandma, who he stays with, at risk by stepping out for work.
“Sanjivani ended around the time Covid-19 started to affect the country last year. The shoots came to a standstill due to the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. I could have taken on a project when work resumed, but I live with my grandmother and I didn’t want to put her health at risk. A lot of my actor friends were testing positive, so I decided to stay put, make sure no one came in contact with her and I didn’t become a carrier. I would have felt guilty if anything happened to her because of me. I knew I could take up work later, but at that point, I needed to take a step back and look after my loved ones,” says Kunal.
Kunal’s family lives in the Middle East and he couldn’t travel to see them due to the pandemic. “I was supposed to go home to my parents after Sanjivani ended. But all flights were suspended due of the pandemic. Besides, it wouldn’t have been ideal on my part to leave my grandmother alone in such a situation. I haven’t seen my parents for almost a year-and-a-half and I miss them,” he says.
The actor plans to get back to work by the end of 2021. He has already started auditioning for various projects. “I had started some work in November last year as things seemed better, but the second wave of Covid hit when I got back in full swing. Some of the projects that were offered to me got delayed. When I realised that we are back to where we were last year, I decided to utilise the time productively. It was taxing to sit idle at home, so I started creating content for my social media pages. For now, that’s keeping me creatively busy. I am ready to resume acting as my grandmother is now accustomed to the new lifestyle. Also, she is fully vaccinated, which is a huge relief for me,” says Kunal.
