Anu Aggarwal thought of Shah Rukh Khan when she met him for the first time

Two years after the blockbuster Aashiqui, still reeling in its super success, Anu Aggarwal had the opportunity to work with SRK in the movie King Uncle.

“I met SRK for the first time on the sets of King Uncle. That was my first meeting, not just with him but with the majority of people on set. I was new to Bollywood, young and alone,” she says. SRK got the opportunity to play a second lead, in a movie with first lead Jackie Shroff where female first lead was Anu opposite Jackie, she was the Aashiqui superstar then even though just 2 films old. It was his big break.

She adds, “My first impressions of him were formed when he showed extra zeal to perfect a shot. There were many people in that shot and his energy to go that extra mile to deliver was impressive. He is a good actor who has been lucky in terms of opportunities and fans.”

In fact, Anu says that there are a lot of similarities between her struggle and his. “He is from my hometown Delhi and we genuinely made it big in Mumbai without family or friend’s support in Bollywood. Also, we both started with Delhi theatre first before acting in movies. Also, I am a self made girl, which is harder in many ways than a boy, it was unique in the late 80s early 90s. I was the lead girl in King Uncle and SRK was just 5-6 films old at that time. I was two-film old at the time —only Aashiqui and Gajab Tamasha.”

She adds, ‘My struggle was not success in films or to be a star but rather my struggle was how to live as an independent girl alone, (which was totally unacceptable by society then ), and manage life alone in my early 20s. Whereas Shah Rukh Khan’s struggle was to make it in films, become a superstar which after supermodel, Aashiqui I already was”, Anu says
