Fans Hail Ranbir-Yash’s Ramayana as the Epic That Adipurush Couldn’t Be

Ramayana 1

The much-awaited first look at Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has taken social media by storm. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as the fierce Ravana, the sneak peek has not only impressed audiences with its grand visuals but also triggered an avalanche of comparisons with Om Raut’s controversial Adipurush.

Viewers Cry, “This Is What Adipurush Should Have Been”

Hours after the release of the teaser, social media started pointing out the stark difference in quality between Ramayana and the widely-criticized Adipurush. Memes, responses, and fan comments overflowed on forums like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, with many commenting that Ramayana is the kind of version of the epic that Adipurush wanted to be but did not succeed in.

One commenter said, “Om Raut must be watching this and crying,” while another one posted, “This is the Ramayana we deserved all along.”

Appreciation for Visuals and Direction

While Adipurush, with its cartoonish VFX and insensitive character designs, has been met with criticism, Ramayana is being applauded for its thoughtfully created look. The visual effects, taken care of by the world-acclaimed studio DNEG, and action sequences choreographed by veteran Hollywood professional Guy Norris, have lent the project credibility and shine.

The teaser does not reveal much of the plot but creates a very strong atmosphere and the presence of characters. Ranbir’s subdued, dignified performance as Ram and Yash’s intense Ravana has already caused huge excitement on the web.

A Second Chance for Mythology in Cinema

The failure of Adipurush to go down well with audiences has left fans questioning large-budget mythological films. But Ramayana is changing that trend. It is a more considered take on the narrative, driven by better production values and actors who suit the tone of the epic.

Cynics and lovers can both agree that Nitesh Tiwari seems to be handling the material with the respect it warrants, giving hope to Indian film being able to do justice to its most revered texts.

The first glimpse of the Ramayana has done more than generate buzz—’tis rekindled hope for mythological storytelling accomplished. For some, it is the cinematic experience Adipurush promised and did not deliver.
