Emmy-nominated Indian-American filmmaker Tirlok Malik recently took to Twitter to thank Dr. Kiran Bedi for watching his new short film ‘To New India with Love’. The former Puducherry lieutenant governor (LG) Kiran Bedi had watched the film on the Malik run NRI TV Film Club’s YouTube channel a few days ago. “Very inspiring… This is the way forward for the youth of India. Elders can keep inspiring youngsters exactly the way professor did in this film—which is making the youth begin with whatever they have. And grow from there. Thanku for this film,” Dr. Bedi’s had commented.
Presented by Padma Shri Dr. Sudhir Parikh, ‘To New India with Love’ is the latest film in Malik’s filmography to deal with the Indian-American community. His previous works include the 1990 film ‘Lonely in America,’ a pioneering work about the dreams and aspirations of young Indian immigrants living in America starring Ranjit Chowdhry, which Malik wrote, produced, and he also acted in it, the 2011 Punjabi film ‘Khushiyaan,’ Malik’s directorial starring Tisca Chopra, Jasbir Jassi, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and the 2014 film ‘On Golden Years’ dealing with the theme of the retirement of the American Dream.
Malik’s latest short film ‘To New India with Love’ has also been praised by several notable personalities from Bollywood. Kesari actor Rakesh Chaturvedi Om praised the film’s inspiring message: “‘To New India with Love’ is a must watch short film which will definitely encourage the Indian youth to pave their bright future in India.” Vodka Diaries director Kushal Srivastava commended the makers for touching upon a strong and relevant subject: “We need optimistic films like this to fight with the darker phase we presently find ourselves in.” 7 Khoon Maaf actor Vivaan Shah called the film “inspiring and wonderful”. Paharganj producer Prakash Bhagat called the film the “need of an hour for the youth”.
‘To New India with Love’ tells the story of a young college student who asks a visiting NRI professor to help him go to America and the heated debate that follows between the two individuals who see the concept of New India very differently. The film stars Tirlok Malik, Aryan Pratap Singh, and Dalip Maccune. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Murtaza Ali Khan. While Rakesh Zharotia is the film’s editor and assistant director, Vijay Chauhan has served as the DOP.
