Punjabi musician and international celebrity Diljit Dosanjh has come forward with a shocking racist experience that he encountered in Australia on his current Aura Tour. A humble and down-to-earth personality, Diljit admitted that despite his international fame, he continues to face prejudice based on how he looks.

The experience that left fans shocked

Talking openly at one of his tour dates, the singer disclosed that he received a racist comment shortly after arriving in Australia. “When I got to the airport, somebody glanced at me and said, ‘Oh, the cab driver is here,'” Diljit said. His words resonated with fans, many of whom vented their anger and disappointment at the incident on social media.

The Born to Shine artist explained that he was not surprised but was deeply hurt by how flippant such discrimination could be. “It happens all the time — people look at our turban and beard and assume things. But I am proud to be who I am and where I am from,” he said, eliciting thunderous applause from the public.

Fans rally in support

Soon after the revelation, fans all over India and the diaspora inundated social media with messages of encouragement. Most applauded Diljit for speaking about racism publicly and leveraging his platform to bring to the fore a genuine problem experienced by people of colour overseas. “Even world icons aren’t immune to racism. It’s tragic,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

Many other Indian film and music icons also joined hands to express their solidarity. They praised Diljit for converting an unwelcome experience into one of awareness and courage.

A global artist with deep roots

Even after the incident, Diljit is driven to share positivity through his music. His Aura Tour has been a huge success, pulling in record-breaking audiences in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. With his high-energy performances and magnetic stage presence, Diljit continues to break cultural barriers and introduce Punjabi music to global platforms.

Turning pain into purpose

While talking about the incident, the singer requested his fans not to be ashamed of who they are and to hold their heads high. “No matter what they call you, remember — your roots, your culture, your values make you stronger,” he added.

Diljit’s dignity and strength in reacting to racism have proved once again why he is still one of India’s most beloved and respected artists globally.
