Singer-composer Samira Koppikar, debuted with the haunting song ‘Maati Ka Palang’, a track from the superhit film ‘NH10’ (2015), and then went on to ‘Aj Phir Tumpe’ (‘Hate Story 2’), ‘Mohabbat Barsa De’ (‘Creature 3D’), ‘Bairaagi’ (‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’), Laal Kapthan (2019) and others.
The talented artiste has not looked back since, dabbling in composing and singing for several hit numbers. The composer-singer was back amid the raging pandemic with a soulful number ‘Rehguzar’ for the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Bole Chudiyan’ that’s slated for release soon.
Samira’s latest song ‘Khumariyaan’, recently released, is all set to win hearts all over again. Penned creatively by Shaheen Iqbal, it reflects the nuances and grandeur of the feeling of being in Love.
Samira Koppikar opines, “Khumariyaan was a word which sparked the inspiration for my melody. It describes the intoxicating feeling of Love. It is about the mixed feeling of restlessness and floaty, dreamy high where the world seems more beautiful almost in slow motion through rose-tinted glasses. Khumariyaan’s melody of the chorus too soars and captures this feeling. Musically we have used the bansuri (by Tejas Vinchurkar), ambient sounds, guitars and vocal riffs to reflect the mood. It’s a love song that shall stay on playlists due to its timeless quality.”
The musician also made the most of the stay-at-home time. Trained in Hindustani and Western music, she has begun sharing her knowledge online as well. She believes music composing and direction require one to understand the vision of the director or content creator. Be it the song or background score a musician has to sonically express the mood, story, film graph, characters of the feature film, series, short film, single, etc.
