To mark World No Tobacco Day 2025, Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) is proud to present Amit Trivedi Live! – Music For A Cause, a live concert aimed at spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and raising vital funds for the treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients. The concert will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 7 PM, at Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium, Sion East, Mumbai.
Celebrated playback singer and music composer Amit Trivedi will perform his popular tracks in a powerful concert that carries the message: “Choose Life, Not Tobacco.”
Speaking about the initiative, Anita Peter, Executive Director, CPAA, said, “We are truly grateful to Amit Trivedi for lending his voice to our cause. His support will help raise crucial funds for the treatment of cancer patients, many of whom have lost their ability to speak due to tobacco-induced cancer. Treatment is expensive, and this concert brings hope and support to those in need.”
For over 56 years, CPAA has been dedicated to the Total Management of Cancer – from awareness and prevention to treatment and rehabilitation. The organization provides free medical aid, nutritional supplements, prosthetics, transportation, counseling, and post-treatment support to underprivileged cancer patients. Additionally, CPAA conducts cancer awareness and early detection camps across workplaces, factories, and communities, screening over 15,000 individuals annually. Alarmingly, nearly 35% of those screened show precancerous symptoms in the oral cavity, largely due to tobacco use.
India faces a significant tobacco burden:
Over 200 million tobacco users, with only 13% using cigarettes.
54% consume tobacco as beedis and 23% as raw or gutka.
In 2020, tobacco-related cancers accounted for 27% of India’s cancer burden—approximately 3.78 lakh of 13.9 lakh total cancer cases.
Chewable tobacco causes up to 90% of oral cancers.
Tobacco kills 3,700 Indians every day—that’s 154 deaths every hour.
Tobacco is linked to 13 different types of cancers, including oral, lung, liver, stomach, bowel, and ovarian cancers. Quitting tobacco at any age significantly improves life expectancy and quality of life.
The economic impact is also severe. Households in India lose approximately Rs 6,181 crore annually due to hospital visits and treatment of tobacco-related diseases. Globally, tobacco use results in a staggering US$1.4 trillion in healthcare costs and lost productivity every year.
Second-hand smoke is equally deadly, contributing to 1.2 million deaths annually. Prolonged exposure increases the risk of coronary heart disease and lung cancer by 25–30% and 20–30%, respectively.
This concert is not just a musical event—it’s a call to action to safeguard public health, save lives, and support those bravely battling cancer.
Join CPAA and Amit Trivedi in making a difference this World No Tobacco Day.
