Producer Boney Kapoor has acquired the remake rights of the Tamil political satire Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil (TTT), a Pongal release that has been running successfully in theatres receiving strong word-of-mouth for its sharp writing and rooted storytelling.
The film, set in a village milieu, revolves around a panchayat leader who finds himself caught in a spiral of chaos when a wedding and a funeral are scheduled on the same day. Using satire and humour, TTT explores local politics, power dynamics, ego clashes and family tensions, while remaining grounded in everyday rural realities.
Kapoor came across the film earlier this year while he was in Coimbatore to attend the Celebrity Cricket League. During his visit, he watched Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil at a local theatre. Sources say the producer was impressed by the film’s narrative treatment, performances and its ability to balance political commentary with humour. Following the screening, Kapoor approached the film’s producers to express his interest in acquiring the remake rights.
Discussions progressed over the following weeks and culminated last Friday at the film’s success party held in Chennai. Kapoor was invited to the event, where further conversations took place with the makers. The deal was subsequently finalised, with Kapoor officially acquiring the rights to remake the film.
