Writer, director, and creative director Abhishek Pathak, who has worked on acclaimed projects such as CID, Aahat, Mauka-e-Vardaat, Crime Alert, Talab, Latkhors, and Chakia Ki Daayan, is now ready with his new short film, Naani Ki Kahani. The fantasy-drama, which explores the timeless conflict between good and evil, premieres on August 23 on YouTube under the banner of Kahani Company. Talking about the thought behind the film, he says, “Naani Ki Kahaani is a story about the delicate balance between good and evil. Since childhood, we’ve heard that God always helps good triumph over evil. But in today’s world, jealousy, competition, and selfishness among people have grown so strong that empathy for one another has almost disappeared. Everyone is caught in the race to win at any cost. As a result, evil has become so powerful that it feels like even God’s hands are tied. In this moment of crisis, the three goddesses decide that perhaps they cannot completely destroy evil anymore, but they can protect goodness. And how they preserve goodness is the soul of this film, something you will discover only when you watch it.” He adds that the idea for Naani Ki Kahani has been with him for years. “I wrote this story back in 2017, and even then it felt relevant. But today, when the battle between good and evil in society feels sharper than ever, it has become even more urgent. Naani Ki Kahaani premieres on 23rd August on YouTube, under Kahani Company. With this film, we hope to share a message that truly speaks to the times we live in.” Sharing details about the cast, Abhishek adds, “The cast of my short film, ‘Naani Ki Kahani,’ is truly special. The lead character, Naani, is played by Neena Cheema, a seasoned television actor with a wealth of experience. Jantru is brought to life by Anoop Giri, who’s been my lucky charm since my early directing days. And Urvashi is played by Monnieka Chowdhury, another talented television actor. We’ve also got a bunch of adorable kids in the film, all adding to the charm of the story.” On choosing the platform for release, he says, “We’ll be releasing ‘Naani Ki Kahani’ on our YouTube channel, Kahani Company, on the 23rd of August. We chose YouTube because it’s a free platform that allows us to reach a wide audience, and the story, though in the fantasy genre, is very relevant today. After the YouTube release, we’ll be sending the short film to various film festivals across India to give it even more exposure.”
