An all India legal aid network to eradicate manual scavenging, in the esteemed presence of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, film director l, writer and producer and Adv. Susieben Shah, chairperson, Maharashtra Stage Commission for Protection of Child Right’s ,Payal Rohtagi ,Sangram Singh ,Dr.Aneel Muraraka ,Nisha Jamwal & Nandita puri was held.
Adv. Abha Singh and Rannsamar Foundation launched an all India legal aid network to eradicate manual scavenging to end the discriminatory and hazardous practice of manual scavenging. Manual scavenging is the practice of removing human excrement from toilets, septic tanks or sewers by hand.
Abha Singh says, “The launch of the legal website is significant since, despite laws banning manual scavenging, the practice continues unabated, with contractors often outsourcing work to daily wagers for as little as a few hundred rupees a day. It is not only illegal, it also causes deaths, the website will enforce the laws more stringently, and also give a fresh push to procurement and rolling out of machines”
