What do you do after a leech bite?
First Aid
A. After the leech has been removed, wash with soap and water.
B. Apply a cold pack and take a simple analgesic if required to relieve pain or swelling.
C. Apply pressure if there is bleeding from the bite.
Seek medical attention if the area becomes infected or if a wound or ulcer develops.
Leech removal techniques include burning it with a flame or with the embers of a cigar or cigarette, or dumping salt or vinegar over the animal. These approaches will get the leech off, but they increase the risk of infection for you.
