A Chittor Fort seated on a 180-metre hill, covers an expanse of 700 acres (2.8 km2). It was constructed by the Mauryans in the 7th century AD. This fort was the citadel of many great rajput warriors such as Gora, Badal, Rana Kumbha, Maharana Pratap, Jaimal, Patta, etc.

There are two types of apsaras: laukika (worldly), of whom thirty-four are specified, and daivika (divine), of which there are ten.
As per Puranas, Apsaras are beautiful, supernatural female dancers. They are often wives of the Gandharvas, the court musicians of Indra and they dance to the music made by the Gandharvas, usually in the palaces of the gods, entertain and sometimes seduce gods and men. Some famous among them are:-
