SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN (5 September 1888 – 17 April 1975) was an Indian philosopher and statesman who served as the first Vice President of India (1952–1962) and the second President of India (1962–1967)
One of India’s most distinguished twentieth-century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy, after completing his education at Madras Christian College in 1911, he became Assistant Professor and later Professor of Philosophy at Madras Presidency College then subsequently Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore (1918-1921).
His philosophy was grounded in Advaita Vedanta, reinterpreting this tradition for a contemporary understanding. He defended Hinduism against “uninformed Western criticism.

What is Swastik ?
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥
Gururbrahma grururvishnuh gururdevo maheshwarah. Guru: Sakshat Param Brahm Tasmai Sri Gurve Namah.
भावार्थ :
गुरु ब्रह्मा है, गुरु विष्णु है, गुरु हि शंकर है; गुरु हि साक्षात् परब्रह्म है; उन सद्गुरु को प्रणाम ।
Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Shankar; Guru is the real Supreme Brahman; salute to that master.
This famous sanskrit shloka is by Adi Shankaracharya. It is part of Guru strotam (a sacred prayer) dedicated to Adi Shankar’s spiritual guide Govinda Bhagwadpada .
The full verse from ‘ Guru Gita’ as given in Uttarakhand section of ‘ Skanda Purana ’ in the form of a dialogue between Shiva and Uma (Shakti).
