For the promotion of Hindi, the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had announced to celebrate Hindi Diwas on 10 January every year in 2006. World Hindi conferences were started with the aim of developing Hindi in the world and promoting it as an international language. The first World Hindi Conference was held on 10 January 1975 in Nagpur.
The first World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
