Chola Dynasty

🇮🇳 FACTS ABOUT INDIA 🇮🇳

The Chola Dynasty was a Tamil thalassocratic empire of southern India and one of the longest-ruling dynasties in world history. The earliest datable references to the Chola are from inscriptions dated to the 3rd century BCE during the reign of Ashoka of the Maurya Empire. As one of the Three Crowned Kings of Tamilakam, along with the Chera and Pandya, the dynasty continued to govern over varying territories until the 13th century CE.

The heartland of the Cholas was the fertile valley of the Kaveri River. Under Rajaraja I and his successors Rajendra I, Rajadhiraja I, Rajendra II, Virarajendra, and Kulothunga Chola I, the dynasty became a military, economic and cultural powerhouse in South Asia and South-East Asia

SHISHUPALA was the son of Damaghosha. Shishupala was born with an extra eye & arms. Coming to visit his cousin, Krishna placed the child on his lap and the extra eye and arms disappeared, thus indicating Shishupala’s death was destined at the hands of Krishna. In the Mahabharata, Shishupala’s mother (Shrutasharava) persuaded her nephew, Krishna, that he would pardon his cousin Shishupala for a hundred offences.

Shishupal’s family connections According to Mahabharata, Shishupal’s father was Damaghosha, the king of Chedi, and his mother was Srutashrava. Srutashrava had two siblings.

Srutashrava had a sister – Kunti (the mother of the 5 Pandavas).
Srutashrava had a brother – Vasudeva (The father of Shri Krishna).

This way – Shishupal was cousins with both the Pandavas and Shri Krishna, though he was much younger in age to all of them.
