In 1024, during the reign of Bhima I, the prominent Turkish ruler Mahmud of Ghazni raided Gujarat, plundering the Somnath temple which was dedicated to Lord Shiva, and breaking its jyotirlinga. He took away a booty of 20 million dinars. This temple, as per the history, was destructed as many as 17 times. the present temple was reconstructed in Chaulukya style of Hindu temple architecture and completed in May 1951. The reconstruction was started under the orders of the Home Minister of India Vallabhbhai Patel and completed after his death.

Rama Setu is a chain of natural limestone shoals between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. Geological evidence suggests that the bridge was formerly a land connection between India and Sri Lanka.[1]
The feature is 48 km (30 mi) long and separates the Gulf of Mannar (southwest) from the Palk Strait (northeast).
