Literally the word means “womb chamber”, from the Sanskrit words garbha for womb and griha for house. Only ‘priests’ ( pujari) are allowed to be there.
The inner sanctum in a temple (especially a Hindu temple), typically having one doorway and no windows, containing an image of the god to whom the temple is dedicated.
Darkness in the garbhagriha is the symbolic representation of the cosmic darkness that envelops the world at the end of a cycle of creation
