Current Status:
The government of India has launched the DigiYatra project which will provide seamless entry to air passengers at airports. Currently, this has started in New Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi. By March 2023, it will also be launched at airports in Hyderabad, Pune, Vijayawada, and Kolkata.
At present, Air India, Vistara, and Indigo are part of DigiYatra.
How does DigiYatra work?
It aims to make air travel paperless and contactless and proposes to make passenger-related processes at various checkpoints simple by using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) based biometric scanning.
This will include facial biometric scanning at Airport entry, Security checks, and Aircraft boarding.
Simplified Steps to use DigiYatra:
- To use the facility, passengers have to first download the DigiYatra app on mobile.
- Then, passengers have to register on the app by filling in the Aadhar credentials followed by a selfie with the Aadhar card which will be used for the facial biometrics at the airports.
- Passengers will also have to add vaccination details using CoWin credentials on the app.
- Then, the person has to scan the boarding pass with the QR code or Barcode, which will be simultaneously shared with the airport.
