Break Open Self-centeredness

Break Open Self centeredness

“The next time you want to withhold your help, or your love, or your support for another for whatever the reason, ask yourself a simple question: do the reasons you want to withhold it reflect more on them or on you? And which reasons do you want defining you forevermore?”

~Dan Pearce

We live a self-centered life and think that is life. Or at least that is how we are supposed to live.

In childhood, when we were told the story of race. In the story, as the race progresses one of the participants falls and the other participant who was sure shot to win faces a dilemma between compassion and self recognition. He ultimately takes a break and returns to help the injured.

Often, after hearing the story, we were meddled in the thought that why did he have to stop?
Can’t he wait till the race is over? Afterall, he was about to win and he had practiced for that day for over a year.

And the truth is He is the real winner. Because he was able to overcome his self-centered nature and go out of his way to help other people.

We, human beings as social animals have already instilled the plant of taking care of ourselves but the seed to take care of other people in the similar fashion has to be installed consciously. Otherwise we will all our lives will be driven by our lower emotions, thoughts and our actions will reap no larger impact.

But what does it take for a person to break open from this bubble of self-centeredness?

It takes pain and suffering for some and for others, it comes with the awakening or illumination during the spiritual process.

Whatever our path may be or whichever religion we practice, all of us must find our way back to each other, to all of us. There is no stranger on this earth. We all know each other as other human beings and are interconnected by the Higher plane.

We must help each other, and bring happiness and peace into each other’s lives.
