1. The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharastra.

2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday inaugurated the e-evidence, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti and e-summon systems built to augment the criminal justice apparatus in Chandigarh. He also inaugurated the 24×7 water supply pilot project in Manimajra, Chandigarh.

3. Over 400 people, including devotees, stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath, have been evacuated and sent to Lincholi to be airlifted as the rescue operation continued for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday.

4. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday launched 500 farmer service centres, which will offer comprehensive support for farming and related activities.

5. The Preamble to the Constitution has been dropped from several Class III and Class VI textbooks issued by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) this year.

The omission has taken place from some textbooks for what are considered the “main academic subjects”, such as the languages and environmental studies (EVS).

6. Dr. Grinson George has been appointed Director of ICAR-CMFRI. With over 20 years in fishery research and prior roles including leading CMFRI’s Marine Biodiversity Division and serving as a Senior Programme Specialist at SAARC.

7. Union minister Chirag Paswan on Saturday opposed the Supreme Court judgement allowing states to create sub-groups within Scheduled Castes for a slice of the 15 per cent quota, and declared that his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will appeal against it.

8. Recently, the Union Cabinet approved a large plan for eight high-speed road corridor projects totaling 936 kilometers, with a total investment of ₹50,000 crore.

1. The government is all set to make amendments to the Waqf Act, thereby restricting the powers of the Waqf Board, sources told India Today. On Friday, the cabinet approved a total of 40 amendments to the act.

These amendments, as per the sources, aim to restrict the Waqf Board’s authority to designate any property as “Waqf property.”

2. The Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati said that her party is not in support of any change in the present reservation system and demanded that it be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. The Supreme court on 1st August held that states are constitutionally empowered to make sub classifications in SC-ST quota.

3. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has inspected the records of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and its money transactions as part of a preliminary inquiry in connection with the alleged irregularities.

4. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said his government will soon introduce a law for life imprisonment in cases of ‘love jihad’.

5. The Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha is scheduled on Monday to pronounce its judgment Judgment by the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi’s power to nominate aldermen to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) without the aid and advice of the Delhi Cabinet.

6. Sanjeev Jain, director and CEO of Parsvnath Landmark Developers — a subsidiary of Parsvnath Developers, was arrested on Sunday after a 60 km chase, said Delhi police. A non-bailable warrant was issued against Jain for not appearing before the Consumer Commission on July 18.

1. Nine children have died and several others injured after a wall collapsed at a temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district yesterday. The tragic incident took place during a religious ceremony at Hardaul Baba temple in Shahpur.

2. A fire broke out in an express train stalled in Visakhapatnam Railway Station this morning. The accident occurred when the train was stopped on platform No.4. After the fire broke out, the officials responded promptly and sent the passengers out. Fire personnel are extinguishing the fire. Couple of AC coaches got burnt and thick smoke was billowing in the vicinity of Visakhapatnam railway station. A huge threat was averted as the authorities responded immediately.

1. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has fined HDFC Life Rs 2 crore for regulatory breaches related to policyholders’ interests and outsourcing irregularities. The penalty, split equally between these issues, must be paid within 45 days.

2. The RBI has re-approved Inderjit Camotra as MD and CEO of Unity Small Finance Bank for two more years, and Govind Singh as MD and CEO of Utkarsh Small Finance Bank for three years.

3. RBL Bank has announced integration of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) services on RuPay Credit Cards it sells. The offering combines multiple payment capabilities into a single card.

1. At the 59th Filmfare Awards, the honours for South Indian cinema were announced, with Mammootty winning Best Actor for his role in the Malayalam film Nanpakal Nerath Mayakkam, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. This achievement makes Mammootty the only Indian actor to have won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor across five decades, starting from the 1980s.

2. Actor Vikram has donated Rs 20 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund in the wake of the tragedy in Wayanad.

3. After Actor Allu Arjun announced that he had donated ₹25 lakh to the Kerala CM Relief Fund, Chiranjeevi also announced that he and Ram Charan had given ₹1 crore.

4. Ashma Kumari KC was crowned Nepal World 2024, beating out 25 other contestants in the 28th edition beauty pageant at the Godavari Sunrise Convention Center, Lalitpur. Sumana KC and Karuna Rawat won the titles of Miss Nepal Earth and Miss Nepal International, respectively.

1. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan will chair an apex level Tri-Service Financial Conference in New Delhi. The conference is aimed to enhance cohesion and synergy in financial issues of the Armed Forces and will see the participation of senior officials from Ministry of Defence, and Controller General Defence Accounts among others.

2. The 14th India-Vietnam Defence Policy Dialogue in New Delhi focused on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, with new proposals including cyber security and military medicine.

3. Army personnel were deployed at an inundated residential area in Pune amid heavy downpours and water discharge from Khadakwasla dam. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed authorities to be alert and shift people from dangerous zones to safer places with the assistance of NDRF, SDRF and the Army, if needed.

4. The Indian Air Force is all set to host its largest multilateral exercise, Tarang Shakti, in two phases in August and September. Eighteen countries, 10 of them with air assets, will join the exercise which will see a total of 150 aircraft, both foreign and IAF, soar into the skies over Sulur and Jodhpur.

(a) Phase one of the exercise will be conducted at Sulur in Tamil Nadu from August 6 to August 14 and four countries including France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom will participate with their assets.

(b) Phase two will be held at Jodhpur in Rajasthan from September 1 to 14 and it will see participation from Australia, Bangladesh, Greece, Singapore, UAE and the USA with their assets.

(c) F-18, A-18, C-130 aircraft, F-16 aircraft, A-10, KC-130 aircraft, KC-135 aircraft of the Indian Air Force will take part in this exercise.

(d) It aims to boost military cooperation and highlight India’s defence industry, supporting the country’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
