100 GW Milestone of Installed Renewable Energy Capacity

1. More than 52 crore 36 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive. The recovery rate from COVID 19 in the country currently stands at 97.45%.

2. India achieves 100 GW Mile Stone of Installed Renewable Energy Capacity. The total installed renewable energy capacity in India, excluding large hydro, has crossed the mile-stone of 100 GW. India stands at 4th position in the world in terms of installed RE capacity, 5th in solar and 4th in wind in terms of installed capacity.

3. The Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) mission Geo Imaging Satellite (Gisat-1) failed* early on 12 Aug (Thursday). The GISAT-1 is officially named EOS-03 (earth observation satellite 03).

4. 🚀(GSLV-F10) took off at 5.43am on 12 Aug as scheduled and the core stage burn out happened as planned, propelling the rocket in its intended path. Second stage ignition happened as planned two minutes into the launch and but after nearly four minutes after take off, as planned, after the second stage shut off. The cryogenic stage did not ignite, rendering the mission a failure.

5. Announcement of Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2018. These awards are to be awarded to 69 workers employed in the Departmental Undertakings & Public Sector Undertakings of the Central and State Governments and Private Sector Units employing 500 or more workers in recognition of their distinguished performance, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind.

6. Centre notifies ban on single-use plastic items from July 1, 2022, increases thickness of polythene bags 50 to 120 microns. polythene bags of less than 75 microns in thickness will be banned from September 30 and bags of less than 120 microns will be banned from December 31 next year.

7. Govt homes for serving officials, not retirees: Government accommodation is meant for serving officials and not retirees the Supreme Court has said while setting aside an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court allowing a retired public servant to retain such premises.

8. Single-use plastic items include, ear bud plastic sticks, candy sticks, thermocol plates decoration items, cigarette box covers, PVC banners less than 100 microns.

9.Himachal Pradesh: Death toll in Kinnaur landslide rises to 15; state govt announces financial relief for victims. CM Jai Ram Thakur visited Nigulsari in Kinnaur district to oversee the relief and rescue work of people trapped in the landslide. He said that the rescue operation will be carried out till the 16 other missing people are traced.

10. An ex gratia amount of 5 lakh to the kin of each deceased person and Rs 50 thousand to those who are injured in this tragic incident, free treatment would also be provided to the injured by the State Govt.

11. Bihar, flood situation continued to be grim in 12 riverine districts including Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur and Munger.

12. Karnataka CM Basavaraj S Bommai on 12 Aug (Thursday) asked officials in border districts to to be extra cautious to check COVID-19 pandemic.

13. In Karnataka CM Bommai has instructed all state departments concerned to hold paediatric camps across Karnataka amid worries over children being at a larger risk in the upcoming third wave of Covid-19.

14. Decades after anti-Sikh riots, UP cops examine crime scene again. Crucial evidence , including blood samples, has been lifted this week from a locked house in Kanpur’s Govind Nagar, attacked by a mob during the anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi. The witness narrated the horrific episode and disclosed the identities of those allegedly involved in the murders.

15. Indore, the country”s cleanest city, has now been declared as the first ”water plus” city of India under the Swachh Survekshan 2021, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said .

17. The Indian Army has planned to construct a tunnel similar to the Atal Tunnel under the Brahmaputra river in Assam for unhindered movement of its vehicles, informed Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The proposed tunnel would be located upstream of the Brahmaputra river from Misa to Tezpur. Its length is expected to be 12-15 kilometres in length.

18. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists ambushed a BSF convoy on Jammu-Srinagar NH in Mir Bazar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on 12 Aug (Thursday) afternoon, leading to an encounter in which two CRPF personnel and as many civilians were injured.
